My name is Dreb Bitanghol in the physical world but I go by the name ‘Dreb Bits’ on the web to save a couple of bytes and to easily register in people’s memory.

I am an Engineering Manager at The Code Company working closely with talented web engineers & strategists for media publishers who would like to succeed in the digital space.
Bio
I am born and raised in the southern countryside of the sunny Philippines.
Back when I was in my senior year in college, I led a team awarded best capstone project for a project that took inspiration from WordPress. It was around that time when I began to take enormous interest in WordPress and the underlying language, PHP. Before I knew it, I started tinkering with JavaScript and database management, as well.
After college, I went straight into the wild world of freelancing as a web designer and developer for websites powered by WordPress.
I was one of the top and highly rated freelancers in Upwork, formerly oDesk, a popular remote talent-hiring platform.
Helping clients build simple, unified, and goal-oriented websites led me to start a few self-initiated projects, which I published to the WordPress plugin repository.
It was around 2015 that I found myself looking for more experience that would challenged myself as a web developer. That’s when I joined 10up. I absolutely enjoyed my time in that company, and I believe I’ve grown so much since I joined there. It is at this point of time where I transitioned from a developer to being an engineer.
I left 10up in the middle of a covid19 crisis to take a few months break from work, and pursuing to build a business after, which is something I have been planning to do. After a few months break, I started working on a few web services under Bits Circle.
Communities and advocacy
I support the growing WordPress communities in the Philippines, and am currently helping to organize the biggest WordPress gathering in Asia at WordCamp Asia 2024 in Taipei, Taiwan — for the second time around.

When I’m not plugging away with WordPress or busy with side hustles:

- Listening to random music, and playing Jazz music in the background on a rainy day or night
